McClaren Vale

Posted on 14 Feb 2009 | 0 comments

On a Saturday we attempt (after preparing the house again for another home open) to go riding in the McClaren Vale. There is a track that starts in Wilunga called the Kidman Trail. This trail is supposed to link various off-road trails together thus creating a massive long distance mountain biking, hiking and horse riding trail. The idea is great, but unfortunately nobody in the information centre can tell us where the trail actually starts and they don’t have any maps for sale…

We get frustrated trying to find it and decide to visit some wineries instead 😉 Wirra Wirra almost seems to challenging to find as well, but luckily we find it with the help of staff at another winery. Maybe we were just navigationally challenged that day… Wine was great, but we were seriously impressed with the fence at the boundary of the property. Amazing the size of those logs!

We wondered around some markets, bought some wine (after tasting more wine) and cooked ourselves a great meal to celebrate the fact we arrived in Australia 6 years ago. The fact that it was also Valentine’s Day makes it just an easy date to remember 😉

The next day we manage to find the start of the trail, follow it to Kuitpo forrest where we do a lap of all the single trail before riding back to the car. We bump into Dimitri in Kuitpo and ride some trails together.
