The stove

A very good point from Rob: we will need a petrol stove. We have our little MSR that can be used, but that wouldn’t be very useful for every day cooking… I think it would soon do our head in.

I had a look on the internet to see what I could find as Rob was talking about a big one and a medium-sized one. I am not sure if I have found those yet. I have found a one-burner from Coleman and a 2-burner from Coleman which I will add here, including their details.

  • Operates on Coleman® Fuel or unleaded petrol

This is the one we end up buying, we loved it and never had an issue with it. We also bought a 5L petrol jerrycan so we could stock up on a few liters of petrol to fill it up. With 2 people we found we didn’t need more than a one burner. It also saved a lot on space…

Prices for the 2 above are (what I have seen tonight) AU$100 for the one-burner and AU$225 if you buy it in Australia from Snowys, but 102 pounds via ebay.

Hmmm, maybe the ones I saw on Amazon are the medium-sized ones. They look the same, but maybe they are slightly different:

Coleman 2 Burner Dual Fuel Compact Liquid Fuel Stove

medium-sized 2 burner?

  • One 7,500 BTU burner and one 6,500 BTU burner
  • Runs on Coleman Fuel or unleaded gas
  • Boil a quart of water in four minutes
  • 2 Burner, 14,000 BTU Cooking Power

I also noticed some heat resistant gloves for 5.75 pounds on ebay. That might also be a welcome addition to the kit, especially when building campfires and fishing ovens (full of yummie damper or lasagna) out of them!! (found a few Aussie sites that sell them as well for only AU$5.50, this is one of them)
